SPE Denver General Meeting: February 2026

February 17 @ 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Abstract:

Operators developing Tier 3 acreage in the Williston Basin often face thin reservoirs, high water cut, H₂S generation, and low returns. This case study highlights a two- well pad in the Middle Bakken and Three Fork intervals where a tailored completions design was applied to control fracture height growth, enhance fracture complexity, and mitigate H₂S risk. Results showed higher oil production, reduced water cut, and elimination of H₂S compared to analog offsets, delivering a step-change in well economics. The learnings provide a framework for unlocking value in Tier 3 rock across the basin.
